Park Hotel

Park Hotel

Shaji was telling me about a woman who is 8 months pregnant that he is helping. The woman lives in a room half the size of my hotel room with a communal toilet shared among many. She lives with her husband and 1 other man who is staying there. The rent for the 3 of them is 2000 rupees. They may each make only about 3000 /month.

I stayed at Shaji and Claudia's orphanage last night. The kids there are bright eyed, and full of energy. They have a couple of Mexican volunteers who have been taking them for football. The one guy can really play the guitar. He tried out my travel guitar and he was playing some Bossa Nova on it that was just amazing. It was so good I had to pinch myself to make sure that I was in India listening to a Mexican play my travel guitar that I bought in Canada.

Shaji and Claudia took me to the DICF this morning. It was really good. The sermon was on love again. Karl made some of the same points as Brook, particularly about truth being part of love. Saw Barry and Anne, the Canadians that took us under their wing when we came in 2004. Their retirement didn't quite take yet, and he is in Nepal, only here passing through. It was quite warm at church, especially after talking. Today is a bit cooler than yesterday too.

Happy Lord Simcoe Day

Double Decker

I guess that your Lord Simcoe day is over by now. I was actually thinking of Lord Simcoe when I was flying over Bulgaria or Turkey a couple of weeks ago, and looking at the layout of the farms. I imagine that it is a lot more uneven terrain than southern Ontario, but the farms are not laid out nearly as regularly.

They have double deckers here. They don't come to a full stop though, and people have to run, and jump to get on them. I think I'll stick with a cab. I have been working solid since I arrived, but Friday night I took off, and hung out with the musicians at the hotel for a bit. I also listened to Knox on the web Sunday night and Dianne and I discussed the sermon (on love) for a bit after. That's almost a virtual date!

Mumbai Sunset

I am back in India. Actually I have been here for 10 days already. I am working on training materials, and it is not going as quickly as anyone would like, so I have been pretty much working continuously since I arrived.
I just got off the phone with Dianne. I got an International phone card for the cellphone. It is freaky to be in the car on the way to work, talking to someone on the other side of the world on a cellphone.
I understand that I am missing some nice warm weather in Canada. Here it is quite mild, but raining a lot.
